Salento, our way
Maps mark the same places. The difference is in the details only locals know: when to arrive, where to park without losing your mind, which restaurant isn't a trap. This is the guide we write for our guests.
TownOtranto
17 km · 25 min by car from MoreBnB
The easternmost point of Italy. An Aragonese castle on the sea, a 12th-century floor mosaic that leaves you silent, and the smell of warm pasticciotti at dawn. Otranto carries itself — just don't show up at noon in August.
BeachBaia dei Turchi
22 km · 30 min by car from MoreBnB
Among the clearest water in Salento — the white-sand bottom reflects the light. Ten minutes on foot through a pine wood to get there. No bar, no umbrella for rent: bring everything.
TownCastro
8 km · 15 min by car from MoreBnB
A fishing town perched above its little harbour — one of the few natural ports on this stretch of Adriatic coast. You walk down to the marina: five fish restaurants, two bars, and a cove where you dive.
TownLecce
50 km · 50 min by car from MoreBnB
The Florence of the South, people say — and they're not exaggerating. A city of golden stone that seems to ignite at sunset. Baroque everywhere, cafés in cloisters, and a Salento pastry tradition that alone is worth the trip.
TownSanta Cesarea Terme
12 km · 18 min by car from MoreBnB
The most dramatic stretch of coast: Liberty-style villas perched on the cliff, sulphur thermal baths inside natural caves, and a sea the colour of cobalt because the floor drops away suddenly. Not your average seaside town.
PlaceGrotta della Zinzulusa
10 km · 16 min by car from MoreBnB
One of the most important coastal caves in the Mediterranean. Stalactites hanging like rags (in dialect, *zinzuli* — hence the name), an interior freshwater lake, endemic fauna unique in the world. Visited on foot from the cliff-side entrance.
BeachCala dell'Acquaviva
11 km · 15 min by car from MoreBnB
A narrow slot in the rock between Castro and Marittima, where the water runs deep and cold because a freshwater spring rises from the bottom — hence the name. No sand: pebbles and rock platforms, a small inlet closed in by pines.
BeachPorto Miggiano
10 km · 15 min by car from MoreBnB
A turquoise cove at the foot of the Santa Cesarea cliffs, reached by descending the famous "100 steps". A 16th-century watchtower stands guard above; below, flat rocks and deep water. Little room — you come early.
PlacePorto Badisco
14 km · 18 min by car from MoreBnB
A tiny fishing inlet south of Otranto where — legend says — Aeneas landed, fleeing Troy. Today it's known for sea urchins in season and for the Grotta dei Cervi, regarded as the most important painted sanctuary of the European Neolithic — which is, however, closed to the public.
PlacePorto Selvaggio
55 km · 60 min by car from MoreBnB
A protected nature park on the Ionian coast, in the municipality of Nardò: you leave the car and walk twenty minutes through a pine forest down to a rocky bay where the water is cold from underground springs. Above, the Torre dell'Alto. No services: bring water and proper shoes.
BeachPescoluse
37 km · 45 min by car from MoreBnB
They call it "the Maldives of Salento", and for once the slogan lands: fine white sand, shallow transparent water that stays warm, dunes behind. This is Marina di Pescoluse, in the municipality of Salve, on the Ionian side. Great for families — and mobbed in July and August.
BeachPunta Prosciutto
70 km · 75 min by car from MoreBnB
White sand, shallow transparent Caribbean-blue water, juniper-covered dunes: Punta Prosciutto, at the northern end of the Porto Cesareo marina, is one of the finest beaches on the Salento Ionian. It's also the farthest on this list: plan a full day, ideally paired with Porto Cesareo.

Three best days in Salento
A suggestion, not a rule. Adapt it to your pace.
Day 1Otranto + Baia dei Turchi
Early morning in Otranto: walls, mosaic, coffee. Late afternoon on the beach at Turchi, until sunset.
Day 2Lecce
A full day in the baroque: Santa Croce, Piazza del Duomo, a slow lunch, an evening walk through empty squares.
Day 3Castro + Zinzulusa + thermal baths
Morning at the Zinzulusa cave, a swim at Castro, the Santa Cesarea baths in the afternoon. Fish dinner on the harbour.
